Most of the health benefits of green tea are due to its unique brewing process. Where black tea undergoes full oxidization in the brewing process, green tea is steamed gently; due to which the natural antioxidants present in green tea are preserved in their original form.
There are a lot of people who think that green tea is only useful for people who are trying to lose weight or boost their metabolism. Although, green tea does promote fat burning, but that’s not all that it does. Here are some of the other health benefits of green tea that a few of us are unaware about:
- Traditionally, green tea can cure a lot of health related issues, such as depression, headaches and constipation. Green tea not only stimulates the blood flow inside the heart but also detoxifies the body to eliminate fatigue.
- It strengthens the oxygen providing blood vessels and therefore reduces the risk of heart related complications. People who drink green tea are less likely to experience a stroke as compared to the people who do not.
- Green tea lowers down the cholesterol levels and maintains a healthy ratio between good and bad (LDL) cholesterol.
- The main antioxidant of green tea extract, EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) prevents the formation of abnormal blood clots and is useful in treating cervical, brain and prostate cancers.
- Essential bacterial enzyme gyrase, in green tea helps in getting rid of bacteria that forms plaque. Green tea also contributes towards your oral health by preventing the formation of any bacteria that causes bad breath.
- It has been found that green tea extract, EGCG, preserves the brain cells from dying and provides rescue to already damaged neurons.
